There is a rising demand for patterned, subsurface drainage systems, but according to the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the University of Missouri (MU) researchers, very few systems have been installed in Missouri and few contractors know how to design or install them.

This is an outstanding program that will cover the details of planning a subsurface drainage system (engineering standards and specifications, design tables), drainage design, design of mains and laterals, drain tile spacing, controlled drainage and subirrigation design principles with hand’s-on problems, as well as feature the MU Drainage/Subirrigation research.

The program will cover financial considerations and feature a panel discussion with a local farmer using a subsurface drainage system, NRCS representative, MLICA contractor, and university expertise.

Our featured speaker will be Dr. Larry C. Brown, Professor, Extension Agricultural Engineer and Director of the Overholt Drainage Education and Research Program and International Program for Water Management in Agriculture at Ohio State University.

At the end of the workshop, participants should be able to:

s design simple subsurface drainage systems, and
s recognize the potential of various water table management strategies to reduce adverse environmental effects of subsurface drainage and improve agriculture production.
